I’m not smiling

Forty-three posts since April last year.

Not bad I guess, given I’d never blogged before and didn’t think I’d have anything useful to say.
I should be smiling.
I’m not.
It seems the well has dried up. I am blogless.

This is NOT a good start to the year.
I did take most of December off, after promising the family (and partner) I’d spend less time at the computer. Seems however that was a BIG mistake.
You see I got off the rollercoaster, now I can’t seem to get back on.
Can somebody please tell me how to get back on the ride.

  1. Hey Jenn,

Just swung by today and saw your post. I hear your pain. My dog has been sick and I've struggled the last two months. So, to get back on the rollercoaster I set some goals and then made a timesheet to make sure I could achieve them. And laboriously, every day, I check off in my diary to make sure I've done what I said I would (and that includes exercise). So start small and work up. Happy writing.

  2. Fi, I have been following your trials and you know that I am such a dog person that I have a B&B for people whose dogs are little fur-kids. So I feel YOUR pain. Thx for dropping by.

  3. Hey Jenn, just take little steps, and if you can do that every day… before you know it you've done a marathon!!

Why don't you use your blog to mark your progress, so as you write a little each day, keep a note about a 'thing' that stood out – you found a really good word, struggled with confict, reached a word count milestone. Then when you come to blog you'll have heaps of material to work with..eg sharing good words, cursing h/h for not behaving, celebrating a milestone.

But in the meantime, (((hugs))) to you. Remember you're not alone 😉

  4. Oh, I understand perfectly where you're coming from, Jenn. I'm constantly hunting for something to blog about.

A good tip someone told me once was to keep a heap several blog posts in reserve for times like these. So I have three or four general ones I can drag out should the need arise. They're boring ones, admittedly, but at least I'll have something to post.

That doesn't help you right now, of course, but I'm sure inspiration will strike. It's always hard to get back into things when you've had some time off.

  5. Hey Jenn,

My life is a constant roller-coaster lately. I do understand not being able to get into blog posts, and I just put all sorts of things on my blog. quotes, updates on writing, reading, things I come across – anything I feel like sharing. Sometimes I just paste a nice picture if I don't have time, but it makes me feel connected to the blogging world.

Remember it's your blog. There's no right number of posts you have to do. Let it be fun and not a chore.

Hope you get your blogging groove back soon.

  6. Hey Jenn,

Don't stress, my dear! We all have busy periods and quiet periods, good times and bad, inspiration and… what's the opposite of inspiration?!

Don't let it get you down. If you're stuck for ideas, why not do a book review like you did on the other blogs? Your post in Nikki's book was fantastic, so maybe you can tell us all about what you're reading?

Big hugs and fingers crossed you don't remain blogless!

  7. Hi Jenn,
I'm just back from a week away with the family and I feel exactly the same. I wonder about the benefits of blogging.

Hey, I could interview you for my blog! (Just thought of that).

I think Anita and Mon have the right approach. The progress report is a great idea and, combined with book reviews, could help you get up at least one to two blogs a week.

The problem with the blog is that it's time consuming and I'm beginning to wonder if a website, with a blog attached that just gives the bare bones, is the way to go.

Hope this helps and let me know if you want to be interviewed!

    Shayne
